  • Buoy's Law on Senate committee agenda - Feb 3rd

Buoy's Law, a piece of legislation named after a deceased dog whose owner was unaware of the side effects of a prescribed medication, requires that veterinarians disclose the side effects associated with prescribed medications.

While NYSVMS opposed the original text of this bill, when we were informed that the Senate sponsor was prioritizing his legislation we worked with legislative counsel to draft language that would better reflect current best-practices. The language is similar to the language used in a California law..

The Senate Domestic Animal Welfare committee meets on Feb 3rd and the updated Buoy’s Law is on the agenda. If this bill passes both houses of the legislature and is signed into law we expect it to have no impact on veterinarians following current best-practices.
